NHSN Hospital Respiratory Data (HRD) Dashboard
Beginning November 1, 2024, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requires acute care and critical access hospitals to report information regarding COVID-19, influenza, and RSV hospitalizations, bed capacity, and occupancy to CDC’s NHSN. These data provide ongoing situational awareness and insight into current patient health and safety needs and inform CDC’s public health response to respiratory pathogens.

This page includes data on:
- Hospital admissions of patients with COVID-19, influenza, and RSV (overall and by age group, with associated admissions levels)
- Inpatient and intensive care unit (ICU) hospital bed capacity and occupancy, and occupancy among patients with COVID-19, influenza, and RSV (overall and by age group)
- Reporting levels for each metric
These data are updated on Fridays, for data reported through the previous Saturday.
- Select a stratification of interest
To use the NHSN HRD interactive dashboards (Weekly Total New Hospital Admissions, Hospital Inpatient and ICU Bed Occupancy, Patients with Respiratory Illnesses in the ICU), select a stratification option from the buttons on the left. Stratification options include admission rates by respiratory disease, age group, and season; bed occupancy percentages by bed type, respiratory disease, and age group; and patients in the ICU by respiratory disease and age group.
- Select filters of interest
Each view can be filtered using the parameters listed under “Graph Settings” on the left side of the page. The filter associated with the selected stratification will allow multiple values to be selected, displaying one or more categories on the graph. All other filters in the current view will allow a single selection. Single selection filters will also update the values displayed in the blue metric panel next to the graph. Available filters may vary by dashboard and stratification option selected.
- Select other ways to view
The data can be displayed in a graph or as a table. Right-click anywhere in the graph for a tabular view. Hovering your mouse over or selecting a data point or bar in the graph will display detailed information.
- View more information about the data source
Use the navigation buttons at the bottom of each dashboard to access and download the underlying dataset, view more detailed information about the data source and metric calculations, and navigate to the CDC Respiratory Illness Channel.
