The “National Initiative to Advance Health Equity in K–12 Education by Preventing Chronic Disease and Promoting Healthy Behaviors” is a 5-year cooperative agreement to improve the health and well-being of students and staff in underserved communities.

Six national nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) support CDC-funded state education and health agencies, universities, and a tribal nation in four priority areas.

Stories of Achievement

CDC Healthy Schools recognizes the efforts of our previously funded state education agencies that implemented and evaluated evidence-based strategies and programs to improve student health and academic achievement. Our Stories of Achievement feature innovative ways these former cooperative agreement recipients improved nutrition, increased physical activity, and managed chronic health conditions while meeting the needs of students, teachers, and staff.
