Three Overarching Principles For Global Public Health Communication

Three Overarching Principles For Global Public Health Communication
Principle 1
Embrace cultural humility and community engagement

With a foundation of cultural humility and commitment to community engagement, public health professionals can implement meaningful and ethical projects and partnerships to better address health disparities.

Principle 2
Use a global public health equity lens that considers systemic social and health inequities

When sharing information on health disparities, consider the positive and negative impacts of your messaging. Emphasize the social drivers/determinants of health (i.e., non-medical factors in the places where people live, learn, work, and play that affect a wide range of health and quality of life, risks, and outcomes).

Principle 3
Use plain language that is culturally relevant

When communicating with members of the public, avoid excessive use of technical language, jargon, and acronyms, which can keep vital information away from people who may benefit most from having the information.
