We are taking steps to continue to modernize and secure our data, applications, and systems. We completed the first phase and restored many of the functions put on pause in May 2021. Now that the first phase is complete, work will resume at a slower pace but will speed up as new systems and applications are brought online. Retirement of Grady Calhoun, C.H.P, DCAS Director
January 10, 2025
I want to express my gratitude to Grady Calhoun for his dedicated service to NIOSH for nearly 24 years.
Grady’s career began in 1987, after earning his master’s degree in health physics from the University of Cincinnati. He dedicated the first decade of his career to Westinghouse and Fernald, developing his expertise and building a foundation that would greatly benefit NIOSH.
In October 2001, Grady joined NIOSH, becoming one of the founding members of what was then known as the Office of Compensation Analysis and Support (OCAS), a unit that would later grow into the NIOSH Division of Compensation Analysis and Support (DCAS). Over the years, Grady took on numerous roles, each showcasing his versatility, dedication, and technical excellence.
As the Technical Program Manager and later as the Contracting Officer’s Representative for the Oak Ridge Affiliated Universities (ORAU) Radiation Dose Reconstruction contract, Grady consistently demonstrated his commitment to advancing the scientific rigor and efficiency of our work.
Since June 2019, Grady has served as the Director of DCAS, leading the administration of the NIOSH portion of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA). Under his leadership, the program has not only thrived but has remained responsive to the needs of the claimants we serve. Grady has navigated challenges like the cybersecurity revision process with foresight and determination, ensuring the continuity of the dose reconstruction process and safeguarding its integrity.
Grady will be retiring on January 31, 2025. Please join me in wishing him a long and enjoyable retirement!
Lori Marion-Moss is the new DCAS Director. Please join me in wishing Lori much success with her new assignment!
