The World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program Isn’t Just For Responders…

Thousands of people under age 44 now receive Survivor care benefits for their certified WTC-related health conditions.

Members of the WTC Health Program share a common experience—they were present during the terrorist attacks or during clean up in the days, weeks, and months after 9/11.

If you attended daycare or school in the NYC disaster area soon after 9/11 or were present in the dust or dust cloud on 9/11, you may be eligible for treatment of your WTC-related illness.

Many who were present now confront WTC-related physical and mental health issues such as asthma, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and cancer.

If you experience these or other health symptoms you believe may be related to your 9/11 exposure, you may be eligible:

  • persistent cough or wheezing
  • constant runny or stuffy nose
  • chronic heartburn or acid reflux
  • trouble sleeping, anxiety, or depression

Please note: The WTC Health Program provides medical monitoring and treatment for certified WTC-related conditions at no out-of-pocket cost.

If your condition is certified by the program, your Survivor care benefits include:

  • mental health treatment
  • physical health treatment
  • annual monitoring exams
  • cancer screening—eligibility for cancer screenings is based on United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) guidelines

Please note: You do not need an attorney to apply to or receive health benefits from the WTC Health Program. However, you can designate a representative such as a family member or friend during enrollment or as a member if desired.

See If You Are Eligible

Eligibility is based on what you did during and/or after 9/11, where you were, and how long you were there (including if you were in school or daycare).
