A Collaborative Approach to Address Racism in a Community–Academic Partnership

This organizational chart shows the composition of the HERCULES Exposome Research Center. HERCULES is part of the Emory Rollins School of Public Health. It is overseen by an Administrative Core, which is advised by a Stakeholder Advisory Board (SAB). The Center is divided into 4 core groups: the Integrated Health Sciences Facilities Core, Data Sciences Core, Pilot Projects Core, and Community Engagement Core. The SAB also oversees the Community Engagement Core. A member of each Core forms the Leadership team, and members of both the SAB and Cores form the Center Anti-Racism Workgroup. The Stakeholder Advisory Board, which represents community groups, government agencies, and academic institutions, includes ad hoc workgroups such as the Racism and Equity and Strategic Planning Workgroups.

This figure provides a timeline of the HERCULES process to address racism and equity. It includes the discussions and decisions made at SAB Meetings and in the three workgroups (SAB Race and Equity Workgroup, Center Anti-Racism Workgroup, and SAB Strategic Planning Workgroup). It also displays the various outputs of the process and the contents of the 2 sets of dialogues: The Racism and Equity Dialogues and the Action Dialogues.
