Hydrate Philly: An Intervention to Increase Water Access and Appeal in Recreation Centers

PEER REVIEWED

Of 159 centers assessed for eligibility, 36 met eligibility criteria. Of the 123 centers excluded, 50 were excluded for not being in a low-income neighborhood, 57 for not having both summer and afterschool programs, and 9 for being unwilling to discourage sugar-sweetened beverages. Four centers declined to participate, and 3 centers could not be contacted to determine eligibility. Of the 36 eligible centers, 29 were randomly selected to participate, including 1 pilot site, and 7 were randomly selected not to participate. Fourteen centers were randomly allocated to the intervention and received treatment.
