Adult Alcohol Use Questions: List of Questionnaires
The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) is comprised of several questionnaires. Prior to 1997, the NHIS consisted of a family core questionnaire and selected supplements. Since 1997, the NHIS has consisted of Family, Sample Adult, Sample Child core questionnaires, and supplements that either stand alone or are embedded in the core. Below are the names of the NHIS core and supplement questionnaires that contain adult alcohol use and related questions. To see the questions, click on the link for the questionnaire of interest and search “wine,” “beer”, “liquor” or “alcohol”. Questionnaires for years 1977-1995 are published in annual “Current Estimates” reports and are found in Appendix III. From 1997 forward, the questionnaires are separate documents. The formatting of the questionnaires changed in 2004.
