How to Set Up a Collaboration

The Technology Transfer Office (TTO) serves as the subject matter experts for assisting CDC researchers to establish research relationships with outside parties. Since no collaborative research project is the same, TTO offers various agreements that are drafted to fit your research needs. To begin a collaborative research project, CDC scientists should please fill out an Initiation Form and contact TTO at for assistance.

The agreement process is initiated when a CDC scientist submits an initiation form to The request is assigned a reference ID and Technology Transfer Specialist within 1- 2 business days. The Specialist corresponds with the scientist within 7 business days of receiving the request, and identifies the appropriate agreement for the situation. The Specialist drafts, negotiates, and coordinates signature of the appropriate agreement. This negotiation time is typically a month but may vary based on the agreement type, complexity, and external partners. The partially executed agreement is forwarded for Branch and Division Clearance and then Center approval. Lastly, a notification of execution is sent to all participating parties with a copy of the fully executed agreement.
