Royal Law, PhD, MPH, is the lead for the Data Science Team in the Data Analytics Branch of the Division of Injury Prevention (DIP) within CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC). In this role, he manages a multidisciplinary team of health scientists, computer scientists, and statisticians to apply novel analytics and data science approaches to existing programs and topics across the Injury Center. Dr. Law also plays a central role in the Injury Center’s data modernization efforts and strategizing how to translate innovative approaches and technologies into improved public health practice.

Prior to coming to DIP, Dr. Law served as the team lead for the Environmental Toxicology Team within the Division of Environmental Health Science and Practice in the National Center for Environmental Health, focusing on identifying and responding to emerging environmental threats.

Dr. Law earned his PhD degree in epidemiology at Georgia State University, his MPH degree in healthcare policy and management at Emory University Rollins School of Public Health, and his BS degree in biomedical engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Dr. Law has more than 25 publications in peer-reviewed journals and MMWRs and has given numerous presentations at international, national, and state conferences or meetings. Topics include machine learning and natural language processing applications for injury research, syndromic surveillance, and harnessing novel data sources for public health surveillance.
