Technology and Health: Aging Safely and More Independently

Presented on .

Viewers learned how technology, including the proliferation of new technologies, is being designed and tested to help older adults remain healthy and live independently. We live in a time when the growth in the number and proportion of older adults is unprecedented in the history of the United States. By 2030, there will be 72 million older adults in the United States and they will account for roughly 20% of the U.S. population. Multiple chronic diseases place them at risk of frailty and loss of independence with increasing age.

This session of Grand Rounds explored how technology can help support older adults to live safely and independently as long as possible. The session included a discussion of the opportunities and challenges presented through technology in promoting optimal aging.
