  • Passed initial / No outpatient: Infants who passed the initial screening and, did not receive an outpatient screening, missed an outpatient screening or refused an outpatient screening.
  • No initial / Passed outpatient: Infants who did not receive an initial screening, missed an initial screening, or refused an initial screening, and passed the outpatient screening.
  • Passed initial / Passed outpatient: Infants who passed the initial screening and passed the outpatient screening.
  • Referred initial / Passed outpatient: Infants who did not pass the initial screening and passed the outpatient screening.

Summary of Detailed Hearing Screening Results Among Infants with Documented Screening

(CDC EHDI HSFS 2016, N=40*)

Among the 40 jurisdictions who reported two-stage screening results, 98.6%26#37; of infants passed screening and 1.3%26#37; of infants did not pass screening. Of those that passed, 95.3%26#37; passed the initial screening with no additional outpatient screening. Of those that did not pass, 48.9%26#37; did not pass the initial screening and did not receive an outpatient screening, 24.7%26#37; did not pass the initial screening and the outpatient screening, and 18%26#37; did not pass the initial screening and were referred directly for diagnostic evaluation.
