Case Surveillance in Action

From national pandemics to foodborne outbreaks to noninfectious health problems like lead poisoning, case surveillance is critical for handling public health problems. NNDSS, with our partners across CDC and at state, local, and territorial health departments, uses case notification data to better understand, track, and respond to health threats. Here are some of our stories.

COVID-19

The National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS) is supporting our nation’s response to the unprecedented threat of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Along with our partners in state, local, and territorial public health departments and disease programs at CDC, our team is working to ensure data about cases of COVID-19 across the nation are received, processed, and sent to the disease experts at CDC. These experts are using the information to better understand, track, and respond to the pandemic and improve national surveillance.
