Spotlight: Tamika and Friends

Partners and Programs in the Spotlight

Learning from survivors
Tamika & Friends, Inc. partnered with the CDC in 2013 in an effort to share survivor stories to better spread awareness about HPV and cervical cancer. Founded in 2005 by cervical cancer survivor and advocate Tamika Felder, their network of survivors and their friends spread the essential message that through education, prevention and treatment, cervical cancer can be eliminated.

The team at Tamika and Friends are constantly seeking new and innovative ways to connect survivors and share prevention messages, as well as stories of hope. One of their most recent projects is a new web series, Cervivorexternal icon. In this series, Tamika interviews several survivors and gives them a platform to share their stories. This open conversation about diagnosis, treatment and life beyond cancer will hopefully allow more women to share their stories.

For Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, Tamika and Friends worked with our campaign to develop matte articles that are currently on our site. We interviewed two strong and beautiful survivors, Libby and Patti, who helped the CDC spread awareness about HPV’s connection to cervical cancer and the importance of HPV vaccination as prevention.
