A family watches a trachoma surveillance survey at their home in the village of Merina Mboupbene, Kébémer Department, Senegal on February 22, 2017. Teams composed of Ministry of Health staff and RTI staff traveled to Kébémer to carry out a trachoma surveillance survey. The activity includes household visits to assess the eyelids of community members to check for any signs of ongoing transmission of trachoma. Kébémer was previously considered endemic for trachoma, but a recent impact survey found that the prevalence was below 5%26#37;, meaning treatment is no longer required. This survey assesses if there is any recurrence of transmission, or if the districts is on track to eliminate the disease.

Health security takes many forms, including this trachoma surveillance survey in Senegal.
