Protecting Health and Building Capacity Globally
DGHP’s Updates from the Field publication regularly shares key stories of global health protection in action.
In 2022, the Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP) collaborated with countries to respond to continued challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as other health threats. We work with public health experts across CDC and around the world to help countries strengthen their public health infrastructure to protect the health and safety of Americans and people around the world.
As we reflect on 2021 and the challenges we have faced as a global community amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and other public health threats, we are also reminded of the advances we have made. This issue provides a glimpse into the pivotal role CDC experts play in working with ministries of health and partners worldwide to strengthen public health systems and to help close gaps in global health security during a pandemic.
CDC investments in global health security around the world have laid the foundation for countries to rapidly and effectively prepare for emerging infectious disease threats, including the current coronavirus outbreak. While we recognize there is still a lot of work to do, our collaborations with other nations, international organizations, and nongovernmental stakeholders, including the private sector, have ensured that many countries are much better prepared today to prevent, detect, and respond to outbreaks, including COVID-19, than they were several years ago.
