CFA's Partnership Approach
The Center for Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics (CFA) establishes and maintains meaningful partnerships with health departments at the state, tribal, local, and territorial (STLT) levels and other public health organizations to help achieve the Center’s mission. CFA’s multidisciplinary team of public health professionals collaborates with STLT partners to help formulate and continually improve products. The Center aims to support health departments in applying forecasting and modeling to their infectious disease outbreak responses.
There are four pillars within CFA’s STLT engagement strategy to support partners in outbreak response:
- Encouraging new ideas by connecting private companies, government agencies, and academic institutions through CFA's Insight Net;
- Maximizing the impact of CFA's products by tailoring them to the needs of health departments, health systems, communities, and individuals;
- Strengthening partnerships with STLT health departments and other public health organizations;
- Sharpening STLT health departments' forecasting and modeling capabilities through technical support and training through CFA's Learning Resources.

Partnerships with Health Departments
CFA supports public health professionals in the U.S. to utilize forecasts, models, and advanced analytics. We collaborate directly with STLT health departments to help preparedness activities and improve public health responses. Below are some ways we partner with health departments to facilitate using CFA models to protect communities.
Partnerships with Public Health Organizations
CFA is working with key public health organizations. We collaborate closely with the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE), the National Association of City and County Health Officials (NACCHO), and Big Cities Health Coalition to understand the needs of STLT professionals, share information and collect feedback. For example, through CSTE's Infectious Disease Forecasting & Modeling Workgroup, we partner to provide educational opportunities for health departments. Trainings developed through these partnerships are available in our Learning Resources Page.
We also work with other public health organizations to discuss ongoing public health risk assessment and risk communication activities. Read more about a CFA-led international meeting to improve risk assessment in public health.
