Participation and quitting
How long will I continue to receive check-in reminders?
During the first week after you get your vaccine, V-safe will send you a text message or email each day to ask how you are feeling. Then, V-safe will send a text or email once a week for up to 6 weeks.
If you signed up for V-safe for the RSV vaccine for pregnant women, check-ins will continue until you report that you've delivered or that you are no longer pregnant (for up to 10 weeks).
What if I want to stop participating in V-safe?
Participation in V-safe is voluntary and you can opt out at any time. To opt out, text 'STOP' when you receive a V-safe text message or click 'unsubscribe' in a V-safe email. You can also opt out of reminders in V-safe by navigating to your My Account tab. Select Edit Information for the Account Owner. Change your communication preferences to 'I prefer not to receive any communication from V-safe' and select Save.
You can opt back in by updating your preferred method of contact to email or SMS (text) in your user profile. You can also start receiving reminders again by replying ’START’ to a V-safe text message or email you previously received.
Are there other ways I can share my experience after I stop participating in V-safe?
You can submit reports of any side effect or health problem after vaccination to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). VAERS accepts reports at any time after vaccination.
The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) is one of the systems CDC uses to monitor the safety of vaccines. V-safe allows reporting to VAERS. Information provided to V-safe can be used to start a VAERS report. If you report seeking medical care after vaccination, V-safe will ask you to complete a report describing your side effects or health problems to VAERS. If you decide to submit a VAERS report, some of your V-safe information (like your name) will automatically be added to your VAERS report. Before submitting your VAERS report, you will have a chance to add more details about your vaccination experience. Reusing an existing account.
