Groups Most Impacted—Emergency Department Visits
Provides an update on which groups are currently most affected by illness from COVID-19, influenza, and RSV.
Groups Most Impacted Update:
- As a percent of all emergency department visits, visits associated with COVID-19 are highest among children under 2 years and adults 65+; visits due to diagnosed RSV are highest among children under 4 years; influenza visits are highest among school-aged children.
- Rates of COVID-19-associated hospitalizations remain elevated among adults 65+ and infants under 6 months. RSV-associated hospitalization rates are elevated among children under 4 years, particularly infants under 6 months. RSV hospitalization rates are also increasing among adults 65+ years. Rates of influenza-associated hospitalizations are low, though adults 65+ have the highest rate.
- Nationally, the percent of deaths due to respiratory viruses (COVID-19, influenza, and RSV combined) is highest among adults 65+.
