Access and Functional Needs Toolkit

The Access and Functional Needs Toolkit can help emergency planners achieve effective communications through the integration of a community outreach information network. The toolkit provides a framework to organize planning for broad groups of people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs, recommended action steps, and noteworthy practices from the field.

2018 CEFO Report

CDC created the Career Epidemiology Field Officer (CEFO) program to strengthen state, tribal, local, and territorial epidemiology capacity for public health preparedness and response. The CEFO Program 2018 Annual Report describes the history and current state of the program and documents CEFO activities to address the public health challenges of 2018.

Pub Health Preparedness Capacity

CDC’s Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Capabilities: National Standards for State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial Public Health is a guide that state and local jurisdictions can use to better organize their work, plan their priorities, and decide which capabilities they have the resources to build or sustain. The capabilities also help ensure that federal preparedness funds are directed to priority areas within individual jurisdictions.

Hurricanes Messaging cover

The Preparedness and Safety Messaging for Hurricanes, Flooding, and Similar Disasters (Spanish) can help local responders quickly create and adapt health communication products for affected communities. The document contains messages on various topics including food safety, carbon monoxide poisoning, waterborne diseases, and mold. Jurisdictions can use the messaging document as a resource for their communication planning.

2018 Snapshot

The Public Health Preparedness and Response 2018 National Snapshot highlights preparedness activities and investments at the federal, state, and local levels, and features stories that demonstrate the impact of these activities.

There are two sections to this report: the Narrative and PHEP Program Fact Sheets. The Narrative describes CDC preparedness and response activities in 2016 and 2017 and demonstrates how investments in preparedness enhance the nation’s ability to respond to public health threats and emergencies. The PHEP Program Fact Sheets provide information on PHEP funding from 2015 to 2017 and trends and progress related to the 15 public health preparedness capabilities defined in the PHEP Cooperative Agreement.

National Report

CDC and the 50 states conducted 487 operational readiness reviews in 2015-2016 to evaluate the ability of state, local and territorial health departments to execute a large response requiring the distribution and dispensing of medical countermeasures. The 2015-2016 National Report of Medical Countermeasure Readiness shares findings on the strengths and challenges related to MCM readiness facing preparedness programs across the nation, as well as opportunities for improvement.

2017 Public Health Preparedness And Response Snapshot

The Public Health Preparedness and Response National Snapshot 2017 demonstrates how federal investments enhance our nation’s ability to respond to public health threats and emergencies. It is our most recent annual report where we present activities that occurred during 2015 and 2016. We spotlight select examples of our work that help inform our actions and investments going forward.
