Opioid Funding

Background

• CDC received an increase in appropriations under the Fiscal Year 2018 Consolidated Appropriation Act and Accompanying Report to address the opioid overdose epidemic and scale up prevention activities across the United States.
• CDC is using the Cooperative Agreement for Emergency Response: Public Health Crisis Response (Public Health Crisis Response NOFO) – CDC-RFA-TP18-1802 mechanism to award a portion of those funds to those affected by the opioid overdose epidemic.
• Eligible Applicants: The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) determined that the 50 states, Washington D.C., and eight U.S. territories and freely associated states that previously responded to the Public Health Crisis Response NOFO are eligible for funding.
• Approval/Funding Date: On August 31, 2018, CDC awarded $155 million to states and four U.S. territories to fight the opioid overdose epidemic. The funding is intended to advance the understanding of the opioid overdose epidemic, and scale up prevention and response activities to make an immediate impact and save lives.
• Funding Availability: This one-time funding is available through August 31, 2019.
