Child COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage

COVID-19 vaccination coverage for children 6 months through 17 years is based on data from CDC’s National Immunization Survey–Flu (NIS-Flu). Estimates of vaccination coverage are based on parental report.

• As of April 13, 2024, 14.0% (95% Confidence Interval: 13.5%-14.6%) of children were reported to be up to date with the 2023-24 COVID-19 vaccine.
• An additional 8.1% (6.5%-9.6%) of children had a parent who reported they definitely planned to get their child vaccinated.
• Reported receipt of the COVID-19 vaccine was low across all socio-demographic subgroups and has consistently varied by child’s age, race and ethnicity, poverty status, urbanicity, and mother’s education level.
• Additional COVID-19 vaccination data for children by demographic characteristics at the national level and overall estimates by jurisdiction are available.

Pregnant Persons COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage

COVID-19 vaccination coverage estimates for pregnant persons 18 to 49 years are based on data from CDC’s Vaccine Safety Datalink. Estimates of vaccination coverage are based on electronic health data from multiple integrated health systems.

• As of April 13, 2024, 13.4% of pregnant persons had received the updated 2023-24 COVID-19 vaccine.
• Vaccination coverage was highest among non-Hispanic Asian (22.8%) pregnant persons and lowest among non-Hispanic Black (5.9%) pregnant persons.

Adult COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage

COVID-19 vaccination coverage estimates among adults 18 years and older are based on data from CDC’s National Immunization Survey–Adult COVID Module. Estimates of vaccination coverage are based on respondent self-report.

• As of April 13, 2024, 22.8% (95% Confidence Interval: 22.3%-23.2%) of adults reported having received an updated 2023-24 COVID-19 vaccine since September 14, 2023.
• An additional 8.7% (7.9%-9.6%) reported that they definitely plan to get vaccinated.
• Vaccination coverage increased by age and was highest among adults 75 years and older [42.3% (40.4%-44.2%)].
• White adults had higher vaccination coverage than adults in all other race and ethnicity groups, with coverage ranging from 15.2% (11.6%-18.7%) among non-Hispanic American Indian/Alaska Native adults to 25.7% (25.2%-26.2%) among non-Hispanic White adults.
• Vaccination coverage was lower among adults residing in rural areas [17.8% (16.9%-18.6%)] than among those living in suburban [23.1% (22.5%-23.8%)] and urban [24.1% (23.3%-25.0%)] areas.
• Vaccination coverage was higher among insured adults [24.7% (24.2%-25.2%)] than uninsured adults [9.3% (7.9%-10.6%)].
• Across states and the District of Columbia, vaccination coverage ranged from 10.4% (8.9%-12.0%) in Mississippi to 41.8% (38.1%-45.4%) in Vermont.

Monthly Jurisdiction Vaccine Administration and Coverage (IIS)

Updated 2023-24 COVID-19 vaccination coverage estimates as of the end of February 2024 based on IIS data submitted to CDC by 51 immunization awardee jurisdictions.

• For children 6 months – 17 years:
  • Among the currently reporting 43 state and city IIS jurisdictions, COVID-19 vaccination coverage among children 6 months – 17 years ranged from 0.5% to 16.0%. Among 8 U.S. territorial and affiliated island jurisdictions, coverage ranged from 0.0% to 1.5%. The coverage of some Pacific Island jurisdictions may reflect vaccination program activities aligned with regional virus circulation patterns (i.e., they may vaccinate on a different schedule than the continental U.S.).
• For adults 18 years and older:
  • Among the currently reporting 43 state and city IIS jurisdictions, COVID-19 vaccination coverage among adults 18 years and older ranged from 1.0% to 26.5%.  Among 8 U.S. territorial and affiliated island jurisdictions, coverage ranged from 0.0% to 3.2%. The coverage of some Pacific Island jurisdictions may reflect vaccination program activities aligned with regional virus circulation patterns (i.e., they may vaccinate on a different schedule than the continental U.S.).

Adults 65 Years and Older (Medicare Fee-for-service) COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage

COVID-19 vaccination coverage among Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries 65 years and older is assessed using data files from the Medicare Fee-For-Service administrative claims data managed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

• As of January 27, 2024, an estimated 28.1% of Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries 65 years and older were vaccinated.
• Estimates by race and ethnicity group: 10.4% of Hispanic adults, 20.8% of Black, non-Hispanic adults, 29.0% of White, non-Hispanic adults, 26.9% of adults of Other, non-Hispanic race and ethnicity, and 24.8% of Asian, non-Hispanic adults were vaccinated.

COVID-19 vaccinations administered at retail pharmacies and American Medical Association (AMA) physicians’ medical offices for adults 18 years and older based on healthcare claims data.

• As of March 30, 2024, an estimated 30.61 million doses were administered in retail pharmacies and an estimated 2.42 million doses were administered in physicians’ medical offices.
