Summary

October is Liver Cancer Awareness Month. Although chronic hepatitis B and chronic hepatitis C are leading causes of liver cancer, many Americans are unaware of the link between viral hepatitis and liver cancer and the effective tools to prevent and treat viral hepatitis.

CDC's Division of Viral Hepatitis (DVH) envisions a world free from viral hepatitis. The newly released DVH 2030 Strategic Plan outlines four key goals to realize that vision:

  1. Prevent new viral hepatitis infections
  2. Reduce viral hepatitis related morbidity and mortality
  3. Reduce viral hepatitis related health disparities
  4. Improve viral hepatitis surveillance for effective public health action

The 2030 Strategic Plan supports each of these goals with specific, time-bound outcome measures, and strategies to guide progress. The plan also identifies relevant data sources, baseline data, and selected outcome measures for 2030. It defines the overall vision, mission, and core values that will inform DVH's activities over the next half decade.
