What to know

U.S. monkeypox case trends data will be updated the first week of every month. The majority of U.S. monkeypox cases are clade II and continue to be in people who are not vaccinated or who have only received one dose of JYNNEOS. Two doses of JYNNEOS are recommended to provide maximum protection.

Trends of monkeypox cases reported to CDC by date*^

*Date is defined as the earliest date available regarding the case (i.e., date of illness onset, diagnosis date, positive laboratory test report date, or date reported to CDC).

Case counts include those who tested positive for either monkeypox virus or orthopoxvirus as described in the case definition.

^ Includes all monkeypox cases (clade I and clade II) reported to CDC.

2024-2026 cases counts are preliminary and subject to change. Data for most recent month may be incomplete due to reporting delays and should be interpreted with caution.
