At a glance

  • Foreign-vaccinated dogs that have been in a high-risk country for dog rabies within the last 6 months must have a reservation at a CDC-registered animal care facility before entering the U.S. If you do not have a valid rabies serology titer for your dog, this reservation must include a 28-day quarantine.
  • Your dog must travel by air and arrive at the U.S. airport where the CDC-registered animal care facility is located.

Overview

Foreign-vaccinated dogs that have been in a high-risk country for dog rabies within the last 6 months must have a reservation at a CDC-registered animal care facility before entering the U.S. Contact the facility well in advance of your scheduled travel to make a reservation for the required exam and revaccination against rabies. If you can't get a rabies serology titer result for your dog before it arrives in the United States, you must also make a reservation for a 28-day quarantine after revaccination. Your dog must arrive at the U.S. airport associated with the facility where you have made a reservation.
