Populations/Projects: Transgender women (NHBS-Trans)

Transgender women, especially transgender women of color, are disproportionately affected by HIV. In 2019-2020, NHBS collected data from transgender women. Seven state and local health departments were funded through the Secretary’s Minority AIDS Initiative Fund (SMAIF, now known as the Minority HIV/AIDS Fund) to conduct the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance among Transgender Women (NHBS-Trans) in geographically diverse U.S. metropolitan statistical areas: Atlanta, GA; Los Angeles, CA; New Orleans, LA; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; San Francisco, CA; and Seattle, WA.
