Populations/Projects: Women of trans experience and transfeminine people (NHBS-Trans)

Women of trans experience and transfeminine people (WTE/TFP) especially WTE/TFP of color, are disproportionately affected by HIV. With funding from the Minority HIV/AIDS Fund (MHAF), state and local health departments conduct National HIV Behavioral Surveillance among WTE/TFP (NHBS-Trans) in geographically diverse U.S. metropolitan statistical areas.

In 2019-2020, NHBS collected data from transgender women in seven areas: Atlanta, GA; Los Angeles, CA; New Orleans, LA; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; San Francisco, CA; and Seattle, WA.

In 2023, NHBS-Trans is collecting data from WTE/TFP, with data collection expected to continue into 2024. State and local health departments are conducting NHBS-Trans in ten areas: Chicago, IL; Denver, CO; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Newark, NJ; New Orleans, LA; New York City, NY; Philadelphia, PA; San Francisco, CA; and Seattle, WA.
