Global Reproductive Health Surveys

What to know

CDC collected reproductive health survey data from many countries for over 30 years. These data are useful for understanding reproductive health issues in those countries. Although CDC no longer conducts surveys, all the reports and some data sets from these surveys are still available.

Surveys provide reproductive health information

Population-based surveys provide essential information about reproductive health. Survey results can be used to get a greater understanding of reproductive health issues, and to evaluate health programs and interventions.

CDC's Reproductive Health Surveys collected data worldwide on topics including:

  • Antenatal care.
  • Fertility.
  • Contraceptive awareness, knowledge, and use.
  • Sexually-transmitted infections.

These surveys were developed and implemented for over 30 years with funding from the US Agency for International Development. Although Reproductive Health Surveys are no longer conducted, past reports and datasets are available.

How to access survey reports

The reports and databases in the table below are available through the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation's Global Health Data Exchange (GHDx).
