Where to Use
This panel displays for all map and chart types, but is only functional for Area, Bar, Combo, and Line charts, as well as US State and World maps.
Fields
Show Annotation Dropdown: Checkbox to show an accordion below the data table listing all of the annotations by number. This is very helpful when it is expected users will be viewing on mobile, as the mobile view of annotation will only display a number.
Annotation Dropdown Title: Change the title of the annotation accordion.
Mobile Annotations: Change the style of annotations on a mobile device. Either select to show a symbol (which corresponds to text in the annotation dropdown), or to always display the annotation text on the visualization.
Add Annotation: Add up to three annotations to your chart. Use the caret to change the options below. To change the positioning of the annotation, drag and drop the dashed circles at the ends. These circles will not display on the published visualization.
- Annotation Text: Type the text for your annotation.
- Annotation Style: Choose how the annotation is displayed on the chart.
- Callout: A text box connected to a point on the chart, with optional connector and marker styling.
- Event Line: A full-height vertical line that marks a single data point along the date or category axis, with a label aligned to one side of the line. Drag the label across the line to switch it to the left or right side. Available for vertical Line, Bar, Combo, Area, and Forecasting charts.
- Position Mode: Choose how the annotation is placed. (Available for Line, Bar, Combo, Area Chart, and Forecasting charts when the chart is not horizontal.)
- Fixed position: Keeps the annotation where you place it manually.
- Snap to data: Attaches the annotation anchor to a data point so it stays tied to that point as the chart updates. If the anchored data point is filtered out or no longer exists in the current data, the annotation does not display. Series: In Snap to data mode, choose the data series used for the annotation point.
- Opacity: Choose the opacity of the text box
- Edit Subject: Allows the line anchor to be moved (uncheck to lock into place)
- Edit Label: Allows the text to be moved (uncheck to lock into place)
- Connection type: Choose from Curve, Line, Elbow, or None.
- Marker: Choose from arrow or circle.
