SMDP's 4th Biennial Conference--Dubrovnik, Croatia- - Register now!
Please join us for the 4th Biennial Conference on Strengthening Global Public Health Management Capacity: Best Practices, Collaboration, and Learning Networks, in Dubrovnik, Croatia, May 25-29, 2008. The conference is co-sponsored by the Andrija Stampar School of Public Health, Zagreb, Croatia and SMDP. The conference website is now operational at www.depol.org/smdp. This conference will bring together public health professionals from around the world to explore the role of management capacity building in improving public health systems and programs. It will also provide a forum for alumni from SMDP’s MIPH course, now in its 17th year, to network and exchange lessons learned about improving management practices in developing or resource-constrained countries.
To explore the theme of "Best Practices, Collaboration, and Learning Networks," the 2008 SMDP conference features:
- Lectures and plenary addresses by experts on current public health management issues.
- Opportunities for skill-building at concurrent workshops.
- Regional gatherings to encourage collaboration and learning networks.
- Case studies of management improvement projects and programs.
- Opportunities to network with peers from around the world.
- Awards for Management Capacity Building Program Excellence, Applied Management Improvement Projects, and Postgraduate Applied Management Improvement Projects.
Please register soon as the conference attendance is limited. Registration closes on March 30, 2008.
All award submissions must be received by January 30, 2008, abstract submissions must be received by February 21, 2008.
MIPH Class of 2007
The CDC Management for International Public Health (MIPH) course in 2007 brought together a diverse group of public health professionals to Atlanta to learn, share experiences, and become skilled and knowledgeable management trainers in a setting removed from the workplace and the pressure of daily responsibilities. The class comprised 24 participants from 12 countries and included nurses, medical university faculty, physicians, epidemiologists, trainers, and economists. They came from Botswana, Brazil, Ethiopia, India, Malawi, Nigeria, Pakistan, St. Lucia, Tanzania, Thailand, Vietnam, and Zambia.

The 2007 class comprised 24 participants from 12 countries participating in an intense six weeks of faculty development. This year the participants came from Botswana, Brazil, Ethiopia, India, Malawi, Nigeria, Pakistan, St. Lucia, Tanzania, Thailand, Vietnam, and Zambia. Professionally, the group included nurses, medical university faculty, physicians, epidemiologists, trainers, and economists.
