An agenda for the meeting can be found at http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/acip/meetings.htm. Rabies; Poliovirus; Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR); Human Papillomavirus (HPV); and Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MCV4) are among the specific vaccines the ACIP will be discussing at the meeting. In addition is the novel Influenza A H1N1, including an update on epidemiology and clinical issues. Discussions will include progress to date on development of a vaccine for novel H1N1 as well as issues to consider related to implementing vaccination programs for novel H1N1 if the United States decides to embark upon such efforts.
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) consists of 15 experts in fields associated with immunization who have been selected by the Secretary of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide advice and guidance to the Secretary, the Assistant Secretary for Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the control of vaccine-preventable diseases.
The Committee develops written recommendations for the routine administration of vaccines to children and adults in the civilian population; recommendations include age for vaccine administration number of doses and dosing interval, and precautions and contraindications.
