The World Health Organization (WHO) headquarters promotes an integrated approach to building sustainable, nationally-owned disease surveillance systems. |

In 1998, member states in the WHO African Regional Office (AFRO) adopted the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) strategy. |

In 2002, WHO headquarters, the WHO South-East Asia Regional Office (SEARO) and member states developed a regional strategy for IDSR. |
|
Activities using an integrated approach are under way in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean region and the Europe region. |
