1. What is the Watch Me! Celebrating Milestones and Sharing Concerns course?
Watch Me! Celebrating Milestones and Sharing Concerns is a free online training course that provides early care and education providers with tools and best practices for
- Working with families to monitor every young child's development, and
- Helping children with developmental delays get the early support they need.
This training was developed by CDC's Learn the Signs. Act Early. program in partnership with the
- Administration on Children and Families,
- Health Resources and Services Administration's Maternal and Child Health Bureau,
- American Academy of Pediatrics' Healthy Child Care America program,
- Head Start National Center on Health,
- National Association for the Education of Young Children,
- Child Care Aware, and
- Yale Child Study Center.
2. What is the Learn the Signs. Act Early. program?
CDC's Learn the Signs. Act Early. program aims to help parents of young children and the providers who serve them to "learn the signs" of typical early childhood development and "act early" on developmental concerns. This way, children with developmental delays and disabilities get the early help they need.
3. What does this free online training course cover?
This training is an hour-long, four-module course. The training presents
- Why monitoring children's development is important
- Why you have a unique and important role in developmental monitoring
- How to easily monitor each child's developmental milestones
- How to talk with parents about their child's development
4. What are the learning objectives for this training?
Early care and education providers who have completed the training will gain the knowledge to
- List three developmental concerns to be monitored by early care and education providers
- Identify at least three developmental milestones for their class's age group
- Describe how to use Learn the Signs. Act Early. resources in their work with children and parents
- Describe two communication strategies to use when talking with families about their child's development
5. Is continuing education available through the Watch Me! training?
Yes! Watch Me! Celebrating Milestones and Sharing Concerns is approved for continuing education. CDC is authorized by IACET to offer 0.1 CEU for this training.
6. How do I receive continuing education for completing the Watch Me! training?
To receive continuing education, you must complete all four modules, the quiz at the end of each module, and a final evaluation. The final evaluation is available via CDC TRAIN. See the next section of Frequently Asked Questions for additional instructions.
7. If I take the training in a group setting, can I still get continuing education?
In order to get continuing education for the training, you must complete the training online and take the final evaluation. The training is not designed to be taken in a group setting; however, group discussion after taking the training online is encouraged.
After you complete the quizzes for all four modules, login or create a new account on CDC TRAIN:
- Visit Course Catalog to find the course.
- Enter Watch Me! or the course number WB4038 in the Search TRAIN box. Then, click on the title of the course.
- Review the information on the Course Summary page and click Register.
- Choose the type of continuing education you'd like to earn. You can select more than one.
- Launch the course and complete it. Return and mark the course Completed when you are ready for the final post-assessment.
- Click OK when you are ready to proceed to the final post-assessment. If you don't pass the post-assessment, you will have one opportunity to retake it.
- Visit the Course Summary page and click the blue Certificate box to download and print your CEU certificate.
- You can also download and print your certificate by visiting the Your Learning tab and then view Your Certificates.
Completing the final evaluation and getting continuing education for the Watch Me! training
1. How do I prevent my progress from being erased while taking the training?
This training requires the use of cookies to track training progress. Please enable cookies before continuing and do not clear your browser cache until you have completed the training to avoid losing your progress.
2. How do I complete the final evaluation in order to receive continuing education?
After you complete the quizzes for all four modules, login or create a new account on CDC TRAIN:
- Visit Course Catalog to find the course.
- Enter Watch Me! or the course number WB4038 in the Search TRAIN box. Then, click on the title of the course.
- Review the information on the Course Summary page and click Register.
- Choose the type of continuing education you'd like to earn. You can select more than one.

3. How do I create an account with CDC TRAIN online?
- Select Create New Account on the CDC TRAIN home page and complete all required information marked with a red asterisk (*).
- Once your account has been established, please keep your login name and new permanent password in a safe place. Once you complete a course and receive CEU, your transcript will be associated with this login information.
Select Course Catalog to navigate to the final evaluation listed under the Watch Me! course.
4. After creating a CDC TRAIN online account, how do I navigate to the Watch Me! final evaluation?
- Log in to CDC TRAIN by entering your user name and password.
- After successful login, select Course Catalog.
- The Search Courses page displays; enter Watch Me! or the course number WB4038 into the Search TRAIN box.
- Click on the course name, and the course information page will display; select Register and select ".1 CEU (for other professionals)" then select Submit
- You must fill out demographic information on your CDC TRAIN account before registering for the course.
- New participants are required to answer the demographic questions
- Returning participants please verify this information and select Submit
- A message will display thanking you for registering for the course; if you have already completed the course, you may select the option to take the evaluation by marking the course as complete.
- If you have not completed the course, you will be directed to the Watch Me! course modules for completion.
- Complete the evaluation and post-assessment, and then click Submit
- A record of your course completion and your CEU certificate will be posted in the Your Learning Tab under Your Certificates.

Using and Navigating the Watch Me! Online Training Course
1. How do I get started?
Click on a module under getting started. Loading can take only a few seconds or up to a minute or two, depending on your computer. You will know the module is loading and how far along it is when a percentage (%) appears on your screen.
2. How do I navigate the course?
Scroll down to move through each module:
- On desktop and laptop computers, you can use your mouse to operate the scroll bar on the right side of your screen.
- If you are using a mouse, it may have a small wheel between the click buttons. Rolling this wheel will allow you to scroll.
- To scroll on a tablet computer or smartphone, move your finger up or down the screen.
Move between modules:
- You will see all four modules listed at the very top of each module in the black bar. Click on the module you would like to view.
- If you are in the middle of a module, you can click the module number in the header at the top to display links to the rest of the modules.
- Once you have completed a module (after scrolling through to the bottom of the page) you will see a button to "Start Quiz" or "Skip to Next Module;" you will automatically be directed to the next module after you have completed the quiz.
3. Can I print the training content directly from the training?
Training content cannot be printed directly from the training. However, you can use your computer to highlight, copy, then paste text from the training into a document, and then print the document. A PDF version of the training is available for download here. [5 MB, 64 Pages, 508]
4. The training does not seem to be working correctly. What should I do?
The training functions best when used with newer versions of most internet browsers. If the training does not seem to be working correctly, first make sure you are using the most up-to-date version of your internet browser (most browser upgrades can be accessed for free online).
