Partnering for Vaccine Equity

Equity in Adult Vaccination

In 2020, CDC launched the Partnering for Vaccine Equity program focused on increasing equity in adult immunization. The program provides over $156 million in funding and support to national, state, local, and community-level partners, who are prioritizing equity in vaccination access and uptake for those groups that experience disparities in immunization – including racial and ethnic minority groups, individuals living with disabilities, rural communities, older adults, individuals with chronic conditions, and more.

The program aims to increase vaccine equity, currently among adults* belonging to racial and ethnic minority groups, by partnering with national, state, local, and community organizations who are working on the ground to increase vaccine confidence and access in their communities.

Program Vision

Through the Partnering for Vaccine Equity program and broader adult immunization efforts, CDC aims to improve equity in adult immunization across disproportionately affected populations, including racial and ethnic minority groups, through partnerships that drive community-level action.

Partners are focused on different activities, such as:

  • Engaging trusted messengers who are promoting vaccine education and outreach through culturally and linguistically appropriate messaging
  • Building bridges between communities and vaccination providers and opportunities
  • Understanding and mitigating vaccine misinformation
  • Understanding the effective strategies and interventions to increase vaccine confidence, access, and uptake in communities

In addition to funding, CDC provides learning and data technical assistance, and guidance and communications to partners to support their efforts.

While the program initially focused on urgent COVID-19 and flu vaccine disparities in racial and ethnic minority communities, it aims to build a national network of partners working to improve equity among disproportionately affected populations across all adult-recommended vaccines.
