How to apply
Eligible PHAP candidates must register and apply through USAjobs.gov. Learn more about Associate Eligibility & Requirements.
Note: To submit your application, we recommend creating a USA Jobs profile early and having the following documents available:
- Current resume or CV
- Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency (i.e., birth certificate, U.S. passport, permanent resident card or naturalization document)
- Academic transcript showing at least a 2.95 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) from the most recent degree completed within the last two years (6 years for veterans)
- Veterans' preference document, if applicable
Due to the large volume of applications, CDC is unable to respond to status inquiries. After all submissions are reviewed, selected candidates will be contacted by email and asked to provide additional information through the Enterprise Fellowship Management System (eFMS).

2024 timeline
Please note: the dates below are subject to change.
- Information
- The PHAP candidate application cycle opened Tuesday, January 16, 2024, and closed t 11:59 p.m. (ET), Monday, January 22, 2024, on USAjobs.gov. Candidates have seven days to complete and submit their initial applications.
- Qualified candidates must provide a personal statement and additional documentation as requested. Instructions are forwarded from PHAP@cdc.gov. If a notification is not received, please check your spam or junk email.
- CDC interviews are scheduled with qualified candidates by video conference or teleconference.
- CDC makes job offers to selected candidates. Offers include the host agency and the assigned geographic area. Host site assignments are non-negotiable.
- Associates begin work at host sites.
- Associates attend PHAP orientation virtually or at CDC Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
