Investigation Reports

NIOSH has been studying vehicle collisions among law enforcement officers for nearly a decade. Through the Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation (FACE) Program, NIOSH conducts on-site investigations of occupational fatalities, including those related to law enforcement officer motor vehicle safety, and supports similar efforts by State partners. In addition to conducting investigations, NIOSH’s FACE Program identifies risk factors that are used to develop prevention recommendations to be shared with law enforcement agencies across the U.S. with the goal of preventing law enforcement officer motor vehicle-related deaths.

Case summaries from FACE reports can be used by employers in safety meetings and “toolbox talks.”
