About
Technical (commercial) grade dinitrotoluene (DNT) is composed of approximately 76% 2,4-dinitrotoluene (2,4-DNT), 19% 2,6-dinitrotoluene (2,6-DNT), and 5% of the other four dinitrotoluene isomers. DNT is used primarily as a chemical intermediate in the production of organic compounds, such as toluene diisocyanate. Secondary applications include its use as a gelatinizing-plasticizing agent in both commercial and military explosive compositions and as a chemical intermediate in the production of rubber chemical.
