National Survey of Long-term Care Providers

Questionnaires, Datasets, and Related Documentation

Documentation for the 2020 adult day services center and residential care community surveys is currently under development. The National Study of Long-Term Care Providers (NSLTCP) was renamed the National Post-acute and Long-term Care Study (NPALS) in January of 2020. The 2020 documentation and survey questionnaires will reflect the new study name. This change will have no effect on the design or content of the 2020 adult day services center or residential care community surveys. Please contact us at ltcsbfeedback@cdc.gov with your questions about this exciting change.

Similar to the 2016 survey design, the 2020 survey design will include two versions of the adult day services center and residential care community questionnaires—version A and version B. NCHS uses two versions of the questionnaire for each sector in order to increase content without increasing burden for respondents. For each sector, there will be a set of core items common to both versions of the questionnaire; NCHS intends to produce both state and national estimates for these items. For each sector, there will be a subset of items that will be unique to each version; NCHS intends to produce only national estimates for these items. Respondents will be randomly assigned to one version of the questionnaire to produce accurate estimates.

Restricted survey data on ADSCs and RCCs from the 2016 NSLTCP are now available for use in the NCHS Research Data Center (RDC). For more information about using the RDC, please visit the RDC website or contact NCHS’ Long-Term Care Statistics Branch (301-458-4747).
