Data Notes
LFU/LTD = Loss to follow-up / Loss to documentation
In many regions the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the delivery of health care services in 2020, including newborn hearing screening and follow-up services. As a result, infants born in late 2019 and needing hearing screening and/or follow-up services in 2020 may have had difficulties obtaining these services.
Data include information about any services that infants born in the calendar year 2019 received through 2020, until time of survey reporting.
ΩThe number of “Births According to Vital Records” was not available. The number of “Births Reported to EHDI program” was used to populate this field.
^Jurisdiction reported using revised “Parents/Family Contacted but Unresponsive” definition. Refer to pages 6-7 of the 2019 CDC EHDI Hearing Screening and Follow-up Survey Explanations document for explanations of “old” and “revised” Unresponsive definitions.
αThe Percent Screened (Based on # of Vital Records Births) is over 100% because the number of infants screened is based on the EHDI program and Vital Records’ birth number is the number of issued birth certificates.
*Percent Screened: (# Screened for Hearing Loss / # Total Occurrent Births Reported to EHDI Program) * 100
†Percent Screened based on number of Vital Record Births: (# Screened for Hearing Loss / Total Occurent Births According to Vital Records) * 100
¶Overall Percent LFU / LTD: ((# Contacted but Unresponsive + # Unable to Contact + # Unknown) / # Total Occurrent Births Reported to EHDI Program) * 100
**Percent LFU / LTD due to unable to contact and unknown: ((# Unable to Contact + # Unknown) / # Total Occurrent Births Reported to EHDI Program) * 100
††Percent Unresponsive: (# Contacted but Unresponsive / # Total Occurrent Births Reported to EHDI Program) * 100
