Methods and Questionnaires
NHBS (OMB No. 0920-0770) collects data relating to behavioral risk factors for HIV (e.g. sexual behaviors, drug use), HIV testing behaviors, the receipt of prevention services, and use of prevention strategies (e.g. condoms, PrEP). In addition to these interview data, all NHBS participants are offered an HIV test regardless of their self-reported HIV status.

NHBS-Trans (OMB No. 0920-1262) collects data from transgender women. Data are collected to assess HIV prevalence and associated behaviors and other experiences important to the health and well-being of transgender women, especially transgender women of color.

NHBS-YMSM (OMB No. 0920-0840) collected data in 2015 from adolescent sexual minority males (ASMM) 13 to 18 years of age to assess HIV prevalence and associated behaviors among ASMM and to identify the most effective sampling methods for this population.
