Contamination Response

Hazard tape

Public aquatic venue managers are responsible for taking the necessary steps to prevent pool-related health and safety problems at their facilities. Studies have shown that pools with operators who have successfully completed formal training have better water quality than pools without trained operators, and better water quality leads to better health for swimmers. Contact your state or local health department’s pool inspection group (many programs are listed under Environmental Health headings) to see which pool operator training courses meet state or local requirements.

The following pages provide recommended policies for pool operators to address bodily fluid contamination.
