Impact Statement

This map shows heart disease age-adjusted death rates at the county level, by gender, all ages, in the state of Florida for the period 2016-2018. Death rates were higher in men than in women. Counties with the highest rates were located mainly in the northern regions of the state and those with the lowest rates in the southern regions for both men and women.

This map shows heart disease death rates at the county level by gender for the state of Florida, all ages, for the period 2016-2018. For women, rates ranged from 67.0 to 222.0 per 100,000 with a state average of 114.2 per 100,000. For men, rates ranged from 119.6 to 363.4 per 100,000 with a state average of 190.4 per 100,000. Among counties in the top quintile for women (death rates 161.8 - 222.0 per 100,000), eight: Baker, Calhoun, Columbia, Duval, Madison, Suwannee, Union, and Washington Counties were located in the northern regions of Florida; three: Hardee, Indian River, and Manatee Counties in the southern regions; and two: Hernando and Okeechobee Counties in the central regions. Among counties in the top quintile for men (death rates 308.1 – 382.3 per 100,000), ten: Baker, Bay, Gulf, Hamilton, Holmes, Liberty, Madison, Suwannee, Union, and Washington Counties were found in the northern regions of the state and three: Citrus, Marion, and Okeechobee Counties in the central regions. Among counties in the bottom quintile for women (death rates 67.0 - 109.6 per 100,000), seven: Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Palm Beach, and Sarasota Counties were seen in the southern regions of Florida; six: Alachua, Clay, Gulf, Jackson, Leon, and St. Johns Counties in the northern regions; and two: Sumter and Saint-Lucie Counties in the central regions. Among counties in the bottom quintile for men (death rates 119.6 – 172.9 per 100,000), ten: Charlotte, Collier, Desoto, Glades, Hardee, Indian River, Lee, Palm Beach, Manatee, and Sarasota Counties were found in the southern regions of Florida; three: Alachua, Franklin, and St Johns Counties in the northern regions; and one: Martin County in the central region.
