Summary

Demographic and incidence estimates of ALS in two California metropolitan areas, Los Angeles County and San Francisco Bay Area, were reported. Incident cases were more likely to be male and white. The two areas differed in the proportion of foreign-born persons with ALS suggesting differences in access to care and referral patterns that may affect case ascertainment and diagnosis.
