Manisha Patel, MD, MS, MBA (CAPT, USPHS) is the acting director of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC).

Role at CDC
Manisha Patel, MD, MS, MBA (CAPT, USPHS), serves as the acting director of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In this role, she leads the center's efforts to prevent injuries and violence and to translate science into action that protects the health and safety of people across the United States. She provides executive oversight of NCIPC's programs and priorities, helping guide investments, partnerships, and strategies that address critical public health challenges such as overdose, suicide, and violence prevention.
Previous experience
In her permanent role, Dr. Patel serves as chief medical officer for the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) at CDC, where she provides leadership on clinical strategy and public health response, advancing national efforts to prevent and control vaccine-preventable and respiratory diseases. Prior to that, Dr. Patel served as the associate director for the Office of Strategy and Innovation at NCIPC and held multiple leadership roles in NCIRD, including acting director of the Division of Viral Diseases, acting director of the Office of Data, Surveillance, and Informatics, and Incident Manager for several national measles responses. She joined CDC as an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer in the Division of Bacterial Diseases in 2005 and provides part-time clinical care to pediatric patients in Georgia.
Education
Dr. Patel is double board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases. She earned a bachelor's degree in biology and psychology from Boston College, a medical degree from Ben-Gurion University, a Master of Science from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and a Master of Business Administration from Emory University's Goizueta Business School.
