Role at CDC

As deputy director for public affairs, Wright oversees CDC's nationwide communications and public affairs efforts, supporting its mission to protect the health and safety of the American people.

In this role, Wright works closely with CDC leadership to guide strategic communications, media relations, public engagement, and crisis response. His priorities include strengthening public trust through transparency, consistency, and accountability; improving coordination with state and local public health partners; and ensuring timely, accurate communication of critical public health information.

Previous experience

Prior to joining CDC, Wright served as deputy chief of staff and communications director for the Florida Department of Health, where he oversaw statewide communications, media relations, marketing, and public affairs. In this capacity, he advised State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph A. Ladapo and directed communications strategies supporting the Department's public health priorities, emergency preparedness efforts, and disease prevention initiatives.

During his tenure, Wright led the expansion of the Department's central communications office and coordinated a statewide network of more than 80 public information officers. His responsibilities included managing high-profile public health communications, overseeing crisis response messaging, and strengthening coordination between state leadership and local health departments.

Previously, Wright served in the Executive Office of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, first as deputy press secretary to the Governor and later as deputy chief of staff to the Lieutenant Governor. In these roles, he advised senior administration officials, coordinated strategic communications, and supported the administration's policy and public affairs priorities.

Wright's earlier career includes serving as director of external affairs for US Senator Rick Scott's 2024 campaign, director of external affairs for then-Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, and regional representative for then-US Senator Marco Rubio.

Throughout his career, Wright has held senior roles in government communications, public affairs, and executive leadership, with experience navigating complex policy issues, managing crisis communications, and supporting senior government officials.

Education

Wright holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Tampa and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration at Florida State University. His academic background and professional experience reflect a focus on public administration, government leadership, and strategic communications.
