These infection prevention and control (IPC) for Ebola or Marburg virus disease (Marburg) training materials provide training for frontline healthcare workers and healthcare facility management in non-U.S. settings. These materials apply to all healthcare facilities that are not designated Ebola or Marburg treatment facilities.
How to use these materials
These presentations are 15-25 minutes each and can be integrated into a regular workday. The content may be mixed and matched to meet participant needs. Scripts and speaker notes are provided for each presentation to allow people who are not IPC experts to lead these trainings. Materials are available in English, French, and Spanish.
IPC in the context of viral hemorrhagic fevers
IPC is a patient safety and public health specialty that enables the safe delivery of healthcare through minimizing or eliminating the risk of infection. It helps protect healthcare workers and staff, patients, and the surrounding community.
During an outbreak of Ebola or Marburg, the main IPC priorities in healthcare settings are:
- Preventing the spread of the virus
- Rapidly identifying people who may be infected through efficient screening and triage systems, quickly isolating people suspected to have Marburg or Ebola, and notifying and referring patients to specialized treatment centers
