What to know

Immunization Quality Improvement for Providers (IQIP) is CDC’s immunization quality improvement (QI) program for healthcare providers enrolled in the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program.

IQIP strategies

IQIP promotes and supports implementation of evidence-based, provider-level strategies designed to increase immunization among children aged 18 or younger. These strategies are evidence-based and supported by and the American Association of Family Physicians.1

The IQIP cycle

IQIP is a 12-month process in which public health representatives and VFC providers collaborate to identify quality improvement strategies that increase immunization uptake by strengthening immunization workflow.

Site Visit

  • Assess provider immunization workflow
  • Review assessment reports
  • Select QI strategies
  • Provide technical assistance
  • Establish action items for selected strategies

2-Month and 6-Month Check-Ins

  • Review progress toward strategy implementation
  • Review coverage (6-month check-in only)
  • Provide technical assistance
  • Establish new action items

12-Month Follow-Up

  • Review progress toward strategy implementation
  • Provide technical assistance
  • Review year-over-year coverage
