Immunization information systems (IIS) are confidential, population-based, computerized databases that record all immunization doses administered by participating providers to persons residing within a given geopolitical area. General Information

South Dakota's IIS is called SDIIS, and it includes immunization records for vaccine recipients of all ages. Visit this webpage to learn more about the IIS.

Child Consent to Participate

For children, SDIIS requires mandatory inclusion by law. Children are included in the IIS with no possibility for their parent(s)/guardian(s) to opt them out.

Provider Reporting

South Dakota does have a mandate for vaccination providers to report immunizations to SDIIS. The provider reporting policy:

Data Sharing

South Dakota does have a policy that regulates sharing data from SDIIS with other public health entities. The data sharing policy:

  • Has no specific data sharing requirements or restrictions.

The child and adult consent policies allow vaccine recipients to request to limit the sharing of their data that are stored in SDIIS.
