What to know

Immunization information systems (IIS) are confidential, population-based, computerized databases that record all immunization doses administered by participating providers to persons residing within a given geopolitical area. This information details how to access immunization records for vaccine recipients who received a vaccine in Pennsylvania.

General Information

Pennsylvania's IIS is the Pennsylvania Statewide Immunization Information System (PA-SIIS), and it includes immunization records for vaccine recipients of all ages. Visit this webpage to learn more about the IIS.

Child Consent to Participate

For Children, PIERS requires implicit consent with opt-out by law. Children are included in the IIS unless their parent(s)/guardian(s) choose to opt them out.

Adult Consent to Participate

For adults, PIERS requires implicit consent with opt-out by law. Adults are included in the IIS unless they choose to opt out.

Provider Reporting

Pennsylvania does have a mandate for vaccination providers to report immunizations to PA-SIIS. The reporting mandate:

  • Applies only to certain providers and
  • Applies only under specific circumstances.

Data Sharing

Pennsylvania does have a policy that regulates sharing data from PA-SIIS with other public health entities. The data sharing policy:

  • Requires that the data are only used for public health or other specific purposes.
