What to know

Immunization information systems (IIS) are confidential, population-based, computerized databases that record all immunization doses administered by participating providers to persons residing within a given geopolitical area. This information details how to access immunization records for vaccine recipients who received a vaccine in Michigan.

General Information

Michigan’s IIS is the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR), and it includes immunization records for vaccine recipients of all ages. Visit this webpage to learn more about the IIS.

The jurisdiction is authorized by law to operate MCIR. For more information, please see Michigan Compiled Laws § 333.9207.

Child Consent to Participate

For children, MCIR requires implicit consent with opt-out by law. Children are included in the IIS unless their parent(s)/guardian(s) choose to opt them out.

For adults, MCIR requires implicit consent with opt-out by law. Adults are included in the IIS unless they choose to opt out.

Provider Reporting

Michigan does have a mandate for vaccination providers to report immunizations to MCIR. The reporting mandate:

  • Applies only to a subset of vaccine recipients (i.e., children under 20 years of age).
