General Information
Michigan’s IIS is the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR), and it includes immunization records for vaccine recipients of all ages. Visit this webpage to learn more about the IIS.
The jurisdiction is authorized by law to operate MCIR. For more information, please see Michigan Compiled Laws § 333.9207.
Child Consent to Participate
For children, MCIR requires implicit consent with opt-out by law. Children are included in the IIS unless their parent(s)/guardian(s) choose to opt them out.
Adult Consent to Participate
For adults, MCIR requires implicit consent with opt-out by law. Adults are included in the IIS unless they choose to opt out.
Provider Reporting
Michigan does have a mandate for vaccination providers to report immunizations to MCIR. The reporting mandate:
- Applies only to a subset of vaccine recipients (i.e., children under 20 years of age).
Data Sharing
Michigan does have a policy that regulates sharing data from MCIR with other public health entities. The data sharing policy:
- Requires that the data are only used for public health or other specific purposes.
