General Information
Maryland’s IIS is called ImmuNet, and it includes immunization records for vaccine recipients of all ages. Visit this webpage to learn more about the IIS.
The jurisdiction is authorized by law to operate ImmuNet. For more information, please see Code of Maryland Regulations Title 10, Subtitle 06, Chapter 03.
Child Consent to Participate
For children, ImmuNet requires implicit consent with opt-out by law. Children are included in the IIS unless their parent(s)/guardian(s) choose to opt them out.
Adult Consent to Participate
For adults, ImmuNet requires implicit consent with opt-out by law. Adults are included in the IIS unless they choose to opt out.
Provider Reporting
Maryland does have a mandate for vaccination providers to report immunizations to ImmuNet. The reporting mandate:
- Mandates universal reporting by law.
Data Sharing
Maryland does have a policy that regulates sharing data from ImmuNet with other public health entities. The data sharing policy:
- Requires a data use/sharing agreement or memorandum of understanding and
- Requires protecting the data’s confidentiality.
